2 Kings 7:3-20 – Drama in Samaria (Part Two)

What an ending! Again, God came to the rescue of his people and used his prophet to let the people see. Did you wonder what ever happened to the lepers who had the privilege of seeing the results of God’s work? God had scared a whole army away so his people could be fed. Talk about making a statement!

These lepers feared something would happen to them if they kept this “secret” to themselves. Do you think that means they had the fear of the LORD? Yet their desperate hunger spoke louder than their faith or fear for they first feasted on the treasure they had found! Imagine the joy they felt! It would have been like Christmas morning as a kid!

December 20 Will You Be Sleeping? (Micah 5:2-5a)

I was just thinking today about how many things had to fall into place to put Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem at the right time. When Micah declared these words, did he realize he was predicting the birthplace of the Messiah hundreds of years later? What a marvelous orchestrator God is! How can we ever doubt him!

The promised eternal king in David’s line would come to live as a man. He will “stand to lead his flock with the Lord’s strength, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.” This prophecy was referred to by Herod’s advisors when he was greeted by the wise men of the east after Jesus’ birth. This small, obscure little town has made history and will forever have a place on the map!

December 19 Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:2-7)

Peace. What does that mean to you? I know that’s a big question. When is the last time you really felt peace? I mean, really felt it?

This is one of my favorite passages from Isaiah. There is so much to cling to here, one could get lost in these words for days. Perhaps, if you haven’t felt full of peace or peaceful recently, you can spend some extra time with these verses and just let the breadth of each word strengthen you, refresh you, and bring you peace.

December 7 Daniel Sees Jesus (Daniel 7:13-14)

In his vision, Daniel saw “someone like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven.” After our last few passages spoke of Jesus in this way, it is good to see the source. Jesus also referenced this verse to refer to himself (Matthew 26:64; Luke 21:27; John 1:51). I love when I find examples of where verses point to each other.

Daniel didn’t know he was seeing Jesus. If you read the earlier part of Chapter 7, you’ll see that Daniel’s vision had included all sorts of beasts. He clearly recognized that there was another figure, one that looked like a man, in the presence of God, the Ancient of Days.

December 1 The Lord Is With You (2 Samuel 7:1-16)

The promise to David is so much bigger than David could have ever imagined, isn’t it? David would have success in life and as king because of God’s hand on his life. David’s devotion to the LORD would be so fervent that no king after him could emulate such loyalty.

God said about David, “Now I will make your name as famous as anyone who has ever lived on the earth!” Until Jesus. Jesus is the ultimate king of this dynasty that God promised David. “Your house and your kingdom will continue before me for all time, and your throne will be secure forever.”
