Hebrews 13:1-25 – Closing Wisdom

Read Hebrews 13:1-25

There are so many encouraging verses in today’s reading. It’s like the preacher had so many nuggets of truth and blessing left to share, but he didn’t want his sermon to last forever. We could snatch just one of these gems and spend a whole reflection on it. Write down some of your favorites and work on memorizing them for just the perfect moment.

While we’re not sure who this preacher was, their clear intention was to support new believers. The wisdom for life that we find in this chapter covers so many bases. How we treat one another is of high importance. In our world today, people tend to be overly “me” focused. The counsel here suggests we should be more loving and involved in our relationships. Hebrews 13:1-3 – Care for Others

Read Hebrews 13:1-3

It seems the sermon has ended. Scholars have noted that this chapter seems almost like it’s written by another author. I see it as the Preacher stepping down from the pulpit and getting more relational in his conclusion, bringing up real life applications. He answers the question, “What does it look to be a Christian under the new covenant?”

First and foremost, we are encouraged to love one another as brothers and sisters. Jesus left us with a similar calling in John 15:12, “This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.” Jesus loved us even deeper than as brothers and sisters. He gave his life for us. That’s close.
