Acts 4:23-37 – Answered Prayer

Read Acts 4:23-37

The early followers saw one of King David’s prophecies come true. They saw up close exactly how that played out. God gave David that message so many years before. The fact that what happened to Jesus was in God’s plan all along was beginning to sink in with the followers. This persecution didn’t end with Jesus, as Peter and John found out firsthand.

Hebrews 13:1-25 – Closing Wisdom

Read Hebrews 13:1-25

There are so many encouraging verses in today’s reading. It’s like the preacher had so many nuggets of truth and blessing left to share, but he didn’t want his sermon to last forever. We could snatch just one of these gems and spend a whole reflection on it. Write down some of your favorites and work on memorizing them for just the perfect moment.

While we’re not sure who this preacher was, their clear intention was to support new believers. The wisdom for life that we find in this chapter covers so many bases. How we treat one another is of high importance. In our world today, people tend to be overly “me” focused. The counsel here suggests we should be more loving and involved in our relationships. Mark 3:31-35 – We’re Related!

Read Mark 3:31-35

How do you think Mary felt when her son all but disregarded her? Obviously, Mary was concerned for Jesus, hoping he wasn’t overdoing it and exhausting himself. Isn’t that what any good mother would do–want to protect her child from harm?

But this was Jesus. This was God. God’s mission would involve some long days, missed meals, and sleeping in unfamiliar, uncomfortable places. Jesus did that for us! In today’s reading, Jesus uses Mary’s concern as a teachable moment.
