Read Hebrews 1:1-4
If you’ve spent any time at all reading prophecies in the Old Testament, you are very familiar with the salutation to the book of Hebrews which talks about how God speaks to us through the prophets. It’s true that God’s prophetic messages are still relevant and applicable to us today. Many of those prophecies point directly to Jesus.
The book of Hebrews is like an eloquent sermon burning with passion. The author is unknown but appears to draw from eyewitness accounts of Jesus’ life of ministry. Several main themes dominate. One is that Jesus Christ is superior to everyone and everything. We will see descriptions showing how Jesus fulfills prophecy and the promises of God. The other focus is simply to give encouragement to the Jewish Christians, likely 2nd or 3rd generation. Not all Jews had accepted Jesus as their Messiah, so the Jewish Christians needed this encouragement, so they didn’t fall back into their old ways.
It’s a comfort knowing we can have a relationship with Jesus. He’s not just someone famous in history. When we see Jesus, we remember he reflects his Father, our heavenly Father. “The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God.” How beautiful an image for us to behold! By encountering Jesus in the Word and listening for his whispers in our ear during our prayer time, we get to know God.
Jesus is God’s son. Jesus’ grand inheritance is his place of honor on the throne of God. The scene from Revelation 7:11 comes to mind for me: “And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living beings. And they fell before the throne with their faces to the ground and worshiped God.” Imagine worshipping in the presence of Jesus, God, and the heavenly host, overflowing with gratitude for a life with him forever!
Jesus said it himself in John 10:30, “The Father and I are one.” We have the privilege of meeting Jesus on the pages of the Bible. Jesus is both the Word and one with God. When we connect with Jesus, we connect with God. Jesus truly is the way, the truth, and the life!
Hebrews will encourage all of us walking along the same journey of faith. Heading toward Jesus and the presence of God sounds like the path I want to be on! Do you feel like you are finally on the right path to getting to know Jesus? Have you encountered any stumbling blocks?
Take the opportunity over the next number of days to let the message of Hebrews encourage you and your faith. May it spark in you the desire to know Jesus on a deeper level.

Let’s pray. Heavenly Father, help me to truly grasp the immensity of your love for me. It is such an honor and privilege to be in your presence and know I belong to you. Use me to do your will. Guide my steps and bring people to me who need to know you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
