Psalm 19:1-6 – Nature Speaks About God

Read Psalm 19:1-6

The book of Psalms contains a poetic style of writing. We can learn a lot about God from the poet’s lyrical way of describing God’s power and might. The Psalms are a good source of learning more about the character of God. As believers, we continually seek more of God.

Our life has more meaning when we understand who our Creator is. It’s golden when we understand our “roots” and realize the same God who fashioned the heavens also created us. I love how the apostle Paul puts it in Ephesians 6:10: “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

Don’t get stuck on the words, “anew in Christ Jesus.” That means when we accept Jesus, we are set apart as believers and given new insights and gifts. If you can remember what your life was like before you knew Jesus, you will remember the difference. Focus instead on the words, “God’s masterpiece.” That’s your new identity.

Never forget the Creator’s deep love for you. This message of love is displayed in all we see. How can we doubt God’s intentions when we marvel at the heavens? When was the last time you looked up to the stars in amazement? The psalmist imagines that these very same heavens “proclaim the glory of God.” Indeed, they do, simply being themselves.

This psalm suggests that creation continually speaks and even bursts forth with joy. Perhaps those “bursts” are what we see with each new sunrise or sunset. God’s artistry is beyond description. Being in awe of God is a great place to start when building a relationship with Him.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking, “Who am I that God would care for me?” It’s easy to feel insignificant compared to all that God has made. But God has made you special, too, exactly how he wants you to be. God told Jeremiah, “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5) I am confident that God has a plan for each of us like he did for Jeremiah.

What did you learn about God from this psalm? God is so majestic, even nature cries out! Cling to the fact he loves you and is gracious to you. How would you describe God?

abiding in Jesus, praying womanLet’s pray. Father, there are no words to fully describe your majesty or my gratitude for your love and grace. Help me not miss seeing you move in my life. Open my eyes to your love, your grace, and your mercy. Fill me with the power I need to serve and reflect your love into this world. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
