Galatians 6:1-18 – Don’t Give Up!

Read Galatians 6:1-18

These are Paul’s final words to the believers in Galatia, and they pack a punch. He reaffirms all that he has taught them, nearly beating them over the head with the truth. Here we feel like Paul is affirming us and sending us on our way equipped to face the evils of this world better than before.

Paul empowers his readers to live their faith out loud and help other believers who may be struggling. There is no question in Paul’s mind that brothers and sisters in Christ are going to stumble. That’s a given. But for each fallen soul, there needs to be a stronger believer standing by to help Jesus rescue them. But there is danger of falling in the pit right along with them, so beware! Acts 6:1-15 – People Will Be People

Read Acts 6:1-15

What we see in this reading is people acting in ways you might expect. If feeling attacked, one might lash out, placing blame on others. If threatened or misinformed, one might be prone to acting out of revenge or seeking control. Perhaps even lying to get their way becomes an option.

In any event, we see how human nature can wreak havoc on a growing ministry. We also see how the leadership handled grumbling in a way that made sense for a growing membership of believers. John 14:1-31 – Great Wisdom

Read John 14:1-31

What a reading full of great wisdom! Jesus knew his time with his disciples was winding down, but the truths he had to share seemed only to be ramping up. Does that ever happen to you? You’re trying to say goodbye to loved ones, and yet you can hardly part with them, thinking of one more thing to say or one more hug to share.

What spoke to you most in this reading? It probably depends on what is happening in your life right now. Hearing Jesus bring comfort can touch us all at our point of need. “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Mark 6:1-13 – What’s Next?

Read Mark 6:1-13

Whether you’ve lived in the same town your whole life or have moved around like a pastor’s family, the way this passage opens can strike a chord. Returning to your hometown or whatever town you currently call home can bring a sense of relief and joy, with a little hopeful expectation tossed in. I experience that each time we return to our Mexico home on the lake. When you come over the mountains and see the lakeside area spreading out below, it takes your breath away. You have your own special arrival moments, too.

But Jesus’ homecoming wasn’t all sunshine and roses, was it? We see a lot of the same negative, condescending types of behavior right there in Nazareth that we see today. John 14:1-14 – The Way to the Father

Read John 14:1-14

There are so many gems in this reading. The wisdom Jesus shares may have gotten lost on his original audience because they were so close to him. Maybe they were blinded by the light, so to speak. While we think it would be obvious who Jesus was, his initial followers were held back for some reason. We may wonder how they could be so hesitant.

We’re like that, too, to some degree. We may let influences outside the church distract us from our utmost devotion. We may take Jesus for granted or not give him all the honor he deserves.
