Philippians 4:13 – Our Strength

“For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13)

This is one of my all-time favorite verses. I have claimed this verse as truth for many years and on many occasions. It’s even on my Bible cover. A children’s song called “I Can” resonates in my head, which helps kiddos remember this verse. More on that in a moment!

Context (Philippians 4:10-20): This verse is one of the ones people, like me, like to memorize, but the context may change the meaning. Paul is thanking the Philippians for their monetary gifts and support, and during his acknowledgment, he speaks of his own challenges as a missionary for Christ. What a powerful testimony of finding blessing in whatever season of life he lives in and pointing to God’s involvement in his life. Continue reading “Philippians 4:13 – Our Strength”

2 Chronicles 13:1-22 – The LORD’s Power

Read 2 Chronicles 13:1-22

On paper, Abijah and his select troops were outnumbered two to one by Jeroboam’s troops in the north. Jeroboam must have believed his victory was sure. But Abijah didn’t retreat out of fear. Instead, Abijah boldly proclaimed the LORD to Jeroboam’s mighty army.

I was proud of Abijah, weren’t you? How many times have we, in the face of danger, declared our allegiance to God and called out the ignorance of our rival? Abijah said without hesitation, “But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not abandoned him.”
