We all want to have a purpose in life. I remember as a teenager sitting at the kitchen table as I often did after everyone had gone to bed. I had my pen and paper. I would write and write, journalling whatever came into my head. Years later I read through those late night scratches and see how I was wrestling with God wondering why he put me on this planet. Have you ever wondered that?
It seems like some people have it all figured out. It’s as if their life has a script or something. Mine hasn’t, and I continue to ask God to show me what his plan is for me. I feel like I have so much more to give. I just want to be clear like Paul on what my mission is. Paul told the Roman church his mission was to make sure the Gentiles who have not heard about Jesus hear about him. Paul’s job is to be a missionary to the Gentiles, to us.
He is consumed with making sure he doesn’t leave anybody out. He is also clear on the recognition he’ll receive. God is using him in a mighty way and some pretty unbelievable things are happening in his life. Yet, he doesn’t want to boast about his own efforts. That’s a good reminder for us as well. We need to be ready at all times to give the glory back to God for what successes we have.
What do you feel your life’s purpose has been up to now? You know God can always use us, even when we feel we’ve been used up. With the dawn of each new day comes new opportunities for us to be stewards, evangelists, comforters, encouragers, leaders, teachers, prayer warriors, etc. We each have a job to do in God’s army. If you’re not clear on your assignment, ask Him.
A purpose we all have in common is much like Paul’s was. Get the word out! Tell people about Jesus and his life-changing promise. We should never keep this to ourselves. Instead, we should pray for openings and opportunities to be the light of Christ in this dark world.
If you’re ever wondering your purpose, remember Paul’s example of telling the world about Jesus. He simply shared his story. All we need to do is share our story. That is something nobody can take from us or refute as true. It’s our story. We tell others how our life is better because Jesus is living inside us. When is the last time you shared with someone what Jesus has done for you? That’s the best purpose of all.

Let’s pray. Lord, I am convicted to do more sharing about you. I know how good it feels to share that kind of news with people who are lost. Prepare the hearts of who will be hearing this good news. May I speak clearly and with purpose. May I always be attentive to your leading and discern the difference between what I think and what you want for me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
