Deuteronomy 10:1-11 – The Ark of the Covenant

Read Deuteronomy 10:1-11

I can’t help but think of the movie, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” when I read Biblical accounts about the Ark. I know that movie was only someone’s imagination, but the power of the Ark of the Covenant should never be forgotten. God’s laws were contained in the Ark.

Recall from our last reading that Moses demolished the first stone tablets out of his anger at the people’s disobedience. God was gracious enough to give him a second chance with new tablets, now securely placed in the Ark. God’s grace was also extended to the people as a result of Moses’ begging and pleading. God’s grace is all sufficient.

Matthew 6:19-24 – Show Me the Money

Read Matthew 6:19-24

Where do you find your security? Is it in your wealth? Are you driven to succeed only to have more money in the bank? Do you cut every corner imaginable just so you can make ends meet? Jesus is talking about our relationship to money, our need for money, and how we should view money. You may have seen before how this passage can be misinterpreted leading people to a wrong understanding.

Again, Jesus wants us to be relying on our Heavenly Father and focusing on building that relationship. When we distract ourselves with money, having more of it that is, we are keeping ourselves from having more of God. Again, the attitude of our heart is what God is watching.

Luke 12:13-34 – Rich Fools

Read Luke 12:13-34

Don’t you love being taught by Jesus every day? The wisdom he shares isn’t just for those people who lived two thousand years ago. It’s timeless. The issues that plagued the world then still exist today. Why? Because evil remains in the world. The final battle has yet to be fought.

We are in the trenches every day. We are surrounded by the enemy. We are lured into wanting this new gadget or that new and improved product. We look for top of the line, latest and greatest, out of this world kind of things. Jesus warns us about our greed. Trying not to judge, I see so many with affluence. Jesus clearly said, “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” Continue reading “Luke 12:13-34 – Rich Fools”
