Advent ๐ŸŽ 2 Corinthians 8:9 – Grace

I thought we’d take a little diversion from our genealogies in 1 Chronicles to focus on the coming of Jesus. We are in the season of Advent for a few more days, and then it will be Christmas once again. We’ll look at some Bible passages, including prophecies that speak of Jesus.

Advent is the time of year some churches dedicate for preparing for Jesus’ coming–both of them! The Bible tells us about Jesus’ first coming as a wee baby, so humble and mild. Jesus himself also promised that he would come again and return for us. So Advent is not only a preparation for Christmas but a reminder to be ready for Jesus’ return.

Have you ever wondered how it could be that easy? Iโ€™m talking about our salvation. These verses should be impressed upon our hearts every day to realize itโ€™s not about what we do. We can never do more to โ€œearnโ€ our salvation. Thatโ€™s hard for us to understand because in this world those who get ahead have worked hard.

God has given us a gift. Itโ€™s not a tangible gift with ribbons that we open. Itโ€™s certainly not a gift we deserve. It is truly amazing, just like the old familiar hymn suggests. โ€œAmazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I’m found, was blind, but now I see.โ€
