Read Numbers 27:12-23

I wonder how Moses felt in that moment of commissioning Joshua to be his replacement. Gratefulness was surely part of it for all that God had allowed him to do over these years. A sense of relief could also have helped Moses, knowing that the people would not be left “like sheep without a shepherd.”. Even to the end, Moses was the ultimate leader thinking of the people he had been charged to care for.

What a life Moses had lived. The first five books of the Bible, known as the Pentateuch, are all authored by Moses. In the pages of the Bible we learn Moses’ story from birth to death. Ezekiel 3:16-27 – Such Great Responsibility

Read Ezekiel 3:16-27

Ezekiel surely had a lot to think about over those seven days. It would seem his assignment is all but hopeless. This reading picks up after that week of Ezekiel’s reflection. He had taken time to deal with how overwhelmed he must have felt. Notice how Ezekiel is cared for and given good instructions.

Despite the divine communication, I can almost feel the pressure Ezekiel faced in making sure he never ignored a message from God, no matter how difficult it might be. God had deemed it wise to give Ezekiel this great responsibility. Even the spirit promised to help him not say the wrong thing when provoked by the rebels.
