“The heavens proclaim the glory of God.” That is really all we need to read today of this psalm. Imagine the majesty of the heavens and all the unexplored wonders. It’s hard enough for us to try and understand what happens here on earth or even within our own bodies. I’m especially aware of that as I would now be what some people would classify as “over the hill.” I relish in the experience and wisdom I have gained in my life. But, my body is starting to feel a few more aches and pains than when I was younger!
Whatever season of life we may find ourselves in, we can be thankful we have found God. We have so much to learn about him, whether we’ve been following him our whole life or for just the last 5 minutes! Each day is a new adventure, a new opportunity to learn, grow, and be blessed.
“Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.” As I was reflecting on today’s reading, my husband took me outside and told me to look up. It’s nighttime now, and he pointed to the constellation of Orion (the hunter). He told me his daddy had first shown him the beauty and majesty of the stars. Orion was one of those constellations they would look for in the Minnesota sky. We now live in Mexico. We see Orion all these thousands of miles away. God’s majesty is indescribable!

God’s majesty is available for all the world. In comparison, we occupy such a fraction of that world. What are we doing to help others see and appreciate the majesty of God? If you wonder what to say, do what my husband did. Look to the heavens. Let them proclaim God’s presence in all its splendor.
Maybe your fascination is in the fact that each snowflake is unique. That’s amazing when you think of how much snow gets dumped on the world each year. As I write this, my friends in the northern United States are getting dumped on in significant fashion. Even my own dad told me I’m in the “right place” right now! I have to agree spending winters in Mexico has been a blessing these past five years! Sweatshirts and an electric blanket to cozy up to are still part of life here in the mountains of central Mexico, believe it or not!
When is the last time you just stopped and marveled at God’s handiwork? Don’t feel bad if you don’t really have an answer. I can remember a time in my life when I was just going through the motions. I may have looked like I had it all together (that’s what you do when you’re a pastor’s wife, after all), but I surely didn’t. I wasn’t truly seeing God for the brilliant creator he was. My heavenly father was not getting my full attention.
This psalm may have been referring to the sun when it said, “Nothing can hide from its heat.” But it’s true that in the same way we cannot hide from God. He knows when we fall. He knows when we need him. He knows it all. The good and the bad. I’ve had my share of “bad” for him to see, yet I am still so sure that he loves me more than I can even imagine.
God is so majestic! The fact he loves me and is gracious to me is hard to fathom. God is indescribable, really, would you agree? Do you have a hard time accepting God’s love, too?
Let’s pray. Father, you are indescribable. There are no words to fully describe your majesty much less my gratitude for your love and grace. Help me to not miss seeing you move in my life. Open my eyes to your love, your grace, and your mercy. Fill me with the power I need to serve and reflect your love into this world. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
