I don’t know about you, but I long for the day when people can speak the truth in love. Sometimes the truth hurts, and that’s okay. It’s the truth. When we can deliver the truth wrapped in love and compassion, it is received so much better. To do a better job of this, we need to become more Christlike in our relationships. So many relationships have been hurt when we miss this crucial piece.
When Jesus taps us on the shoulder and lets us know that it’s our turn to share, we need to step up. He has taken his place with the father. He has ascended. That’s a cool image when you think of it. He first descended to live as one of us. When you can get your head around that truth, you are doing pretty good. Many have a hard time imagining that God would step down from his heavenly kingdom, the throne of grace, to live among his sinful children. He loves us that much. He showed us himself how to live. He gave us himself, the perfect person in Jesus, to follow.
So what do we do? How do we act? God’s word gives us so many clues and lots of nuggets of wisdom telling us what he wants from us. We can find promises galore and a wealth of experiences we learn from. Jesus is the truth, the way, and the life. We need to accept that it is that simple. Why do we fight it? Why do we question his truth?
In addition to all that we have in God’s word, he has given us abilities and gifts. When we use them as he intended, others can see his truth and also be set free. Sometimes we don’t feel so very free in this life. This world does tend to drag us down. We cannot let our circumstances limit us. That would be too easy to let Satan have his way.
We need to stand firm and remember we follow Christ and he is the head of his body, the church. “He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” You are part of this body. You have been designed for a special task. Now it’s time to go and do.
Let’s pray. Father God, I sometimes wonder what it is that you have for me to do in this world. I see so much distrust and corruption. Cleanse me and wash me clean. May I fix my eyes on you and work to be more Christlike in my relationships. I want the world to see you more clearly because of my actions. Use me, Lord. Fill my mouth with your words. Prepare the ears of those I meet to hear your truth. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
