Day 3 🌲 O Come All Ye Faithful

nativity shepherds o come all ye faithful

On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me… Rather than three French hens, our carol today repeats this line “three” times in each refrain. “O come, let us adore him!” We can adore Christ the Lord in the here and now!

As you read through the lyrics of this carol, let yourself be transported back to Bethlehem. Read Luke 2:8-16. Imagine you’ve tagged along with the shepherds, anxious to see this thing they’ve just heard about.

O come, all ye faithful,
joyful and triumphant!
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem!
Come and behold him,
born the King of angels.

How are we to approach the infant king? As faithful followers with triumphant hearts full of joy! When we think of what God did in sending Jesus, we shouldn’t be surprised that he could, but that he would. That is a truth to behold for sure!

God from true God, and
Light from Light eternal,
born of a virgin, to earth he comes!
Only-begotten Son of God the Father.

Lest we forget who we are worshipping, it is God. God’s light sent into this world was his very own Son! John 1:14 says, “So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.”

Sing, choirs of angels,
sing in exultation,
sing, all ye citizens of heav’n above!
Glory to God, all glory in the highest

If you’ve ever been part of a choir, you know how the beauty of one voice singing alone is magnified when other voices join in, filling out a harmony. To sing in exultation is to sing with overflowing joy and jubilation. What a honor to give the glory to God for his magnificent plan! Let’s join our hearts in joyful praise!

Yea, Lord, we greet thee,
born this happy morning;
Jesus, to thee be all glory giv’n!
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing

Will you greet Jesus today? O come let us adore him!

Let’s pray. Lord, I come to you today yearning to be closer to you. I adore you and give thanks for all that you have done for our world. May your peace and mercy wash over me and give me a new sense of joy. Help me to shut out the distractions of the world so that I can be totally present with you. You hold my heart, Lord Jesus. In your precious name I pray. Amen.
