Acts 4:23-31 – Doing the Right Thing

Read Acts 4:23-31

If you’d like to review the passage directly before this one that describes what it was Peter and John were reporting to the others, you can click HERE for that reading.

I’m glad they wrestled with the situation. It helps us know and recognize when we need to step back and analyze a situation. A lot of times, the situations we find ourselves in move us in a direction away from God. We may not be intentionally drifting, but we are. Sometimes we realize it only after we are far from the shore. If we’re lucky, we have a paddle in the boat.

Sound familiar? We all have those times in our life. We can always get closer to God. His love for us has no boundary. And he rewards those who stay true in so many different and  creative ways. In our story today, the disciples are no exception. In fact, they reveal how possible a blessing from the Almighty can be.

After making sure the group was in alignment, they were ready to move forward. First stop – prayer. They prayed for boldness. That is exactly what I pray for each day in life and in business. Boldness for God should be a priority. I loved what happened to reward their request. “After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.”

Now, I’m not sure I need for the room to shake, but that confirmation from God was like applause and a tap on the shoulder. They had answered prayer. Boom. Holy Spirit at their service.

I need to ask myself, and maybe you do too — am I being bold for God?

Let’s pray. Lord, I can learn so much from the boldness of these men who knew you up close and personal. You are revealing yourself through their actions because they are doing them in your name, because of you, and for you. May I be so bold as them. Give me wisdom to see opportunity. Thank you for the grace to do your work. Bring the people to me who you would like to bless. May my words be exactly what they need to hear. I thank you for the opportunity you have given us here today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
