Read Daniel 2:24-45
Daniel’s answered prayer was revealed to the king. King Nebuchadnezzar got exactly what he asked for. Daniel’s revelation from God included a full description of what the king had seen and what it meant. God exposed the future in an apocalyptic manner that scholars still wrestle with today.
We need to remember that God loves all his children. His gift of this vision came from God. The fact that God chose to use Nebuchadnezzar in his plan of history shows us that love. Even though Nebuchadnezzar did not know God, God knew him.
According to this dream, Nebuchadnezzar’s kingdom would be the strongest of all until the end. In that day, a forever kingdom would rule God’s entire creation. What an honor to be recognized in that way! Early in his reign, the king would have been delighted to have such encouragement.
How do you think Daniel felt to be able to share such news? He, too, would be privy to the future destiny of his descendants. Just as scholars have varied opinions on what kingdoms this prophecy or “secret” of God represents, I, too, got caught up in trying to think through history to see where we are in the timeline. I suppose we all look forward to the final day when the world is as God intended once again.
I loved Daniel’s words here describing the God he loves. “There is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the future.” God reveals secrets to us. Cool. When you get a word from God, treasure it. King Nebuchadnezzar had no idea what a magnificent tribute this was to receive such “secret” meant only for him. Daniel was God’s instrument to give the king the true meaning, the king’s greatest desire in this story.
How would you describe the God we love? I don’t think we could even scratch the surface of being able to describe the excellent majesty of our God. Sovereign and just. Loving and strong. Protecting provider.
Think through all the attributes you can think of that describe our Father God. Meditate on how you respond to Him.
Let’s pray. Father God, you are faithful forever. I can always depend on your strength when I am weak. Thank you for your messages and forgive me when I don’t pay attention. When your messages do get through all the noise in my head I feel blessed and drawn closer to you. May my faithfulness never waver despite attacks from the enemy. You are my rock and my salvation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
