“The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)

How timely this message is! God’s faithfulness is indeed “great,” and his mercies “never cease.” That’s all because he loves us so much. His faithful love remains no matter what terrible things we do. We can always rely on the promise of these verses no matter what is happening in our lives.

Context (Lamentations 3): The prophet Jeremiah is believed to have written Lamentations, and this chapter speaks of his hope in the Lord’s faithfulness. Jeremiah endured many hardships as a prophet of the LORD, and yet his own faith rings out in these verses as he recounts the trials of the people along with the never-ending faithfulness of God.

Just as Jeremiah trusted God’s faithfulness, we can do the same. We may not face the same adversity in life as a prophet, but we can still take fire for our faith. It seems like this world just gets darker and darker all the time. No matter what we encounter, it’s always good to remember that God is always faithful. God often uses times of darkness to prepare us for a brighter tomorrow.

Let these verses speak to you when you’re feeling like you let God down for something you did or didn’t do. Sometimes it helps to remember how the Israelites misbehaved and treated God so poorly. God still loved and redeemed them. Even in Jeremiah’s warnings of the discipline God planned for the unrepentant children of Israel, God’s faithfulness remained. God’s word was true.

As believers, we’re aware of God’s love for us. It’s a constant we can trust, allowing us to feel peace when battles rage around us. We’re told God’s mercies are “new every morning.” Just the thought of that conjures up images of freshness, beauty, and new life, like a blade of grass emerging from the soil in search of the sun’s rays.

My heart breaks for all those people who don’t know and haven’t experienced God’s love, mercy, and faithfulness. They are missing so much of what God intends for them. They haven’t yet recognized the tug on their heart is from their Creator desiring to be known.

God’s faithfulness is one of those mysteries of faith that we can easily share about. We can tell of the difference we have known in our lives because of God’s faithfulness, his provision of mercy and grace. Talking about the success of others, in this case God, is so much easier than taking credit and promoting ourselves.

Take some time today to reflect on the faithfulness of God and how that changes your life or how you view your situation. That’s a story you can share.

two people praying together Jesus is hereLet’s pray.  Great is thy faithfulness, O Lord. Your mercies endure forever, and I am so grateful to be your child. Thank you for how much you love me and for the assurance you provide as ruler of my life. Forgive me for times when I take you for granted. Give me the courage to share my faith with others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
