May God be glorified in all we say and do. As verse 1 reads, “Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness.”
There is a great worship song from Chris Tomlin that takes this verse and builds a song around it, “Not To Us”. Listen here.
It’s easy to want to take the applause in life, be honored, be successful. Who is really responsible? Could we have done great things without our God? In all things, we should give God the glory!
Even in the small things, we need to keep our hearts and minds focused on our creator. Even sweeping the floor can be enjoyable, if we think of honoring God with our actions. If there is something you need to do today that you are not that keen on doing, refocus your mind that you are doing it to glorify God. It may take a little time to accomplish the change of mindset, but it will make the task enjoyable and rewarding.
The middle section reminds us several times that God is our helper and shield. We should trust him. If you’re hardheaded like me, you may think you are invincible. Do you tend to push yourself to the limit to get things accomplished, sometimes without thinking or planning ahead? These are probably the most unproductive times. When I compare those times of “going it alone without thinking” to when I take time to seek God’s help and listen for his plan–it’s laughable. God’s ways are so much better.
What does your day look like today? Have you made a plan? Have you checked in with God?
Let’s pray. Lord, I thank you for your many blessings in my life. Each day I am more grateful for all that you do for me. Give me eyes to see you as you reveal yourself today. May all I do and say be to your glory. I want to honor you in all tasks. Remind me that I can’t do it all on my own. Together we are invincible. I look forward to what you have in store me today, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
(Side note: Psalm 115-118 are traditionally sung at the Passover Meal.)
