Did you see Jesus in this passage? I did, so I looked at some of the resources David has on Micah. Remember he did his dissertation on this book–so there are still plenty of references sitting on his bookshelf. It appears others hadn’t seen Jesus, but I’d like to take this reflection in that direction anyway.
Because I ask the Holy Spirit to speak to my heart when I read a passage, I’m going to go with what I heard today because I’m never sure who is supposed to read my words. It is always my prayer that something the Lord gives me in my reflections will return to him full and overflowing.
I’ll ask again, “did you see Jesus? What came to me as I read Micah’s words, “the Lord will be my light.” were Jesus words in John 8:12. “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” Goosebumps? Me, too! No matter whose “voice” this is that is speaking through this prophecy, I see Jesus.
The world may be crumbling around us. Could that be what the people under siege and being hauled away into exile were also feeling? Just like Micah said, “The Lord will bring me into the light, and I will see his righteousness.” I know that Jesus is my light and God has brought me to this very moment to be standing in his light. The world can go ahead and crumble. I have Jesus.
What is this passage saying to you? When I read Micah’s words, “So where is the Lord—that God of yours?” I saw Jesus hanging on the cross being mocked and ridiculed. For me. Jesus endured that suffering for me. God was with him all along, but the plan was not to rescue his Son.
The pronouncement of restoration in verses 11-13 is bold. Has this restoration taken place? I was trying to remember a time when Israel was peaceful and thriving as described. I’m not a history buff or anything, but it seems like Israel and that area of the world has been full of conflict for many years. Could it be that this time of restoration is yet to come?
I hope that my reflections, whether they are perfectly “on point” or not, help you to think about what God’s word is saying to you each day. Asking the Holy Spirit to reveal himself is always a good place to start. It seems like each time I read a passage I’m taken on a different journey. What a gift God’s word is! Be blessed by it today!
Let’s pray. Lord, I thank you for how your word speaks to me each day. Thank you for revealing yourself to me little by little so that I can get to know you and appreciate all you do for me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
