This is a partner poem to the one we just walked through. Here’s an interesting idea. In a commentary I was reading, it suggested that Hannah’s song in 1 Samuel and these two poems of David serve to bracket the story of David and his kingship. Interesting.
We see David introduced here as the son of Jesse, anointed by God, and the “sweet psalmist.” David certainly left his mark on God’s people then and now. What a life David has led! He was certainly multifaceted.
And the words out of David’s mouth are potent. “The Spirit of the Lord speaks through me; his words are upon my tongue.” What a statement! What an honor!
It is often my prayer that God speak through me. I pray that in times when I am feeling weak and unsure of my own human frailty. I trust that God will hear me and use me for his purpose when I pray in that way. I am then energized as I wait to see God move my heart and lips. I have often marveled at the words coming out of my mouth, knowing they are from God. I could never be that eloquent without his help.
We may not all be kings appointed by God, but we have been chosen for such a time as this. What does that mean for you? How is God using you? For David, he aspired to rule righteously and with fear and awe of God. We can call upon God’s majesty to help us navigate our assignment, too.
Just tonight in a small group discussion we were marveling on God’s brilliance. We were looking at creation and all of the history that lives toward the core of the earth – simply one planet in a sea of others in the galaxy. The same God who designed and created all of that, loves me and you! If that doesn’t strike up some awe in you, I don’t know what will.
Now it’s our turn. God is calling us to be stewards of all he has gifted us with. That is our purpose! For me, it’s my passion and skill at writing. I love to write. This blog, books, emails, articles, letters, scripts—you name it! Well, I wasn’t a fan of research papers in college, but that’s another story!
Now, God has given me the honor of writing for him. I am finally using the gifts he gave me to glorify him! I finally feel like I am in alignment with my purpose. I pray you find the way God wants you to serve. Ask him. He’ll show you.
Let’s pray …
Lord, thank you for how you’ve gifted me to be uniquely me. Thank you that I am now using those gifts to bring honor to you. May the legacy I am creating make a difference in the lives of many. Lord, it is my prayer that you will use my work to awaken in those who read my words the desire to connect with you on a deeper, more personal level. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
