Psalm 81 – Worship

Read Psalm 81

There are so many beautiful lines in this psalm. I love how it starts out! Sing! Sing! Sing! My favorite way to worship my King. Whether I do it alone in my studio on the piano, just me and God, or corporately in church with others, it is heaven on earth for me. Music and worship are so joined in my life.

As I reflect on worship, I often say, “that’s why we’re here on earth. God created us to worship him.” I can think of nothing better. God has done so much for us. He is so worthy of our praise. People are stubborn, though, and many idols blind us from true communion with God. God has only the best for us. We are the ones who let evil enter in. When it does, God protects and patients waits for us to return to him.

Like I said, there are many beautiful lines here. Another one that really spoke to me is verse 6. “Now I will take the load from your shoulders; I will free your hands from their heavy tasks.” So many of us are carrying loads way to heavy for us to manage alone. Perhaps it’s you personally struggling to manage, or someone you work with, your neighbor or family member. Maybe all of the above. The promise is here, and we need to claim it, give up this load, God has offered to take it!

How about the last part of verse 10, “Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it with good things.” We so often get in a bad pattern of nay saying. Maybe we’re complaining about the weather, or our jobs, or other people (hopefully not!) But we need to instead to open to God’s leading and wait on him to fill our mouths with good things! I used to tell my kids, if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all! It may sound familiar, and it may sound simple, but it isn’t always.

It all comes back to worship and how we align ourselves with God. I don’t know about you, but I want my life to be a reflection of worship. I want there to be no question that I love my God and that I have devoted myself to be a servant leader. We all have our goals and aspirations. Take a moment to reconnect with your relationship with God.

Let’s pray.  Lord, please use me and direct my path. As I dram of the future and what you have in store for me, I am so excited. Help me not lose focus of your greatness and how you have always provided for me. May I reflect you in all I do and be your hands and feet to make a difference here in the place you have put us. Show me who needs a touch from you today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
