John 19:17-42 – Dead and Buried

Read John 19:17-42

There are so many key individuals involved in Jesus’ death and burial. In addition to Pilate and the leading priests who squabbled over the charges, there were the soldiers, Jesus’ faithful women followers, the disciple Jesus loved, Joseph of Arimathea, and Nicodemus. Each one was used by God to play a role in how Jesus’ mission on earth ended.

It’s also amazing to see how Jesus, in his agony after being beaten and carrying his own heavy cross, was still fulfilling prophecy to the bitter end. He also connected his mother with his dear disciple, establishing a means of care for her. In his final moments, Jesus was still caring for his loved ones. Luke 2:1-20 – The Birth of Our King

Read Luke 2:1-20

It’s no longer Advent. We have arrived at Christmas, when we celebrate Jesus’ first coming. Merry Christmas! Whether you have read this passage a gazillion times or this is your first time, let the impact of the miracles of that glorious night touch your heart.

The angels declared, “The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!” This is a story that has God’s fingerprints all over it. The timing was perfect, placing Joseph and Mary in Bethlehem. God never said his entrance into the world would be flashy, and the humility played out perfectly. Between the angels and the shepherds, there was no need for a newspaper headline (had there been newspapers back then). What strikes you in this message? Jeremiah 46:1-28 – All Part of God’s Plan

Read Jeremiah 46:1-28

To the political world as well, including nations surrounding Israel, God has spoken. Today’s passage is devoted to Egypt. We can’t help but pay special attention to that nation’s fate since that’s the last place we know Jeremiah to have been. However, the destruction Jeremiah prophesies about here was fulfilled years before Jeremiah arrived.

When I first read through this, I thought this prophecy was the exact thing Jeremiah was now walking into. I had marveled at how surreal that would have been. We already encountered the fact the chapters in the book of Jeremiah aren’t in chronological order.
