The Holy Spirit helps us. We all need help, too. Some won’t take advantage of that help or even realize there is help to be had. There was a time in my life when I forgot this and ignored this gift. I know I’m not alone. There are many people on this planet who don’t yet know Jesus, let alone the Holy Spirit.
It’s a good thing that God knew us all first. He knew that we would stumble and be blind to his gloriously simple truth. Love, follow, and obey. We complicate it and want to know every detail. Instead of just trusting the God who created all that is, we think we’ve got it figured out.
Then we try to pray. What does your prayer life look like? That’s really a personal thing between you and God as your relationship deepens. Yet, many of us have a ‘laundry list’ of requests for God, and we call that prayer. I’m as guilty as the next. It’s okay to ask God for provision, but prayer is so much more than that. It’s our means of communicating with the Father. When you talk to your own earthly father, do you only ask him for things?
We’ve got a Helper that will show us how to pray. The Spirit will keep it real, and the things we ask for and talk about with God will be relevant and meaningful. Regardless of this, we always want to be praying the Father’s will, and the Spirit helps us with that.
My favorite verse in this reading is verse 28, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” I find solace in this verse because it tells me that God wants good for those of us who love him. He is working behind the scenes to make sure things work out for me. But we also need to be mindful of loving God in return and being faithful in the service he has purposed for us.
Too many times we continue on our “comfortable” way. We don’t rock the boat. We don’t necessarily ever think outside the box either. What if God’s will for us was so crazy and wonderful, and we never realize it because we stay focused on what’s familiar?
Take some time to think about that for a moment. Are you what’s limiting your greatness? Is it your attitude or belief that is keeping you from reaching your life goal? We hear a lot of talk about vision boards or bucket lists. Those are both examples of thinking outside the box so we can picture ourselves doing something extraordinary.
What we do know for sure is that God has called us. He wants us to be close to him. We should forever be
Let’s pray. Father, I am so thankful for all the blessings you have given me in my life. I think of love, eternity, family, freedom, and peace to name just a few. May I be a good steward with all that you have entrusted to me. Help me to accomplish the goals I have set for myself. If they are not your will for me, help me to see clearly what that is. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
