Psalm 30

Read Psalm 30

God is always faithful.  This psalm is full of praise but it also speaks of a time when the psalmist felt as if God had turned away.  When things are going well, it is easy for us to have confidence in our own ability, push forward leaving God behind.  This does not please God. The psalmist experienced this very thing it appears.

But we know that God does not run from us, he is always there.  Can you recall a time when you felt invincible?  How long did those feelings last? I can, and I can probably also confess that I forgot who was in charge.  It is in these times, when we forget who is in control, that plans can fail.  If they are not God’s plan, and we try anyway, it is likely our plans will not succeed.

This is a good reminder to stay focused on praise, and on following God’s will for us so we will not feel abandoned. After all, his will is perfect.  If we walk in his path for us, we should not have to cry out for rescue as the psalmist does here.  Can you recall a time when you cried out to God, feeling like you were stuck? I can, and as I recall how that all played out, God’s plan for me was so much better than I could have dreamed.

This psalm has snipets of song lyrics that are familiar, yet I cannot “name that tune”.  Can you help me?  “Joy comes with the morning” and “You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing.”  What song is that from? Joy–the byproduct of living in close communion with God.  Who wouldn’t want that?

What areas of your life are you still holding on to?  How can you sense God’s plan for you?

Let’s pray.  Lord, thank you for all you have done for me.  For protecting me from my adversaries and delivering me to a stress-free environment. What great people you have placed in my life, and I pray for each one that they will know you and follow your plan for their life as well.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

  1. Psalms is one of my favorite Books in the Bible, so it was very refreshing to read this. I liked the way you explained the chapter so that we can have a better understanding of what we’re reading. We should all strive to be closer to God every day, especially in these times! Great post!

    1. Thanks, Oliver! I enjoy the Psalms as well. I’m going to divert to 1 Timothy for a while. You should visit often and sign up for email notifications when I post. Have a great day!

  2. I love the Psalms. I was not too familiar with Psalm 30 before I read your post. But I have a lot that I am coming back to regularly. One of my favorite is Psalm 139.

What I like about the Psalms is that, they are genuine prayers from the heart of the one who wrote them. Mostly David. They can make you feel really closer to God and there are one for different circumstances.

    1. Thanks for your comment, Guy! I enjoy the Psalms, too. I’ll be doing other books of the Bible, too, and of course Psalm 139 will be a ways down the road. You should sign up for daily updates if you’d like! Peace to you!

  3. God is a faithfull God and there is none like Him, The psalmist David was a man of God that knew how to get God’s attention and he did this through praise and worship. God has a great desire to fellowship with His creation and the way that can be done is through praise. For the word of God declares that God inhabits the praise of His people which shows that we can get Gods attention through praise. God Is great and worthy to be praised. Praise the Lord for his goodness.

    1. Yes indeed, Norman. Thank you for your comment. You are a psalmist yourself! Have a blessed day!

  4. My pastor uses Psalms in many of his sermons. My mom always liked the 23rd Psalm. I can relate to this Psalm as I’m sure many other Christians can. When things go well, do we think about God? When things go bad, we wonder where God is. We must all remember that God has a plan for us. Thank you for this post!

    1. Thanks, Kevin for sharing! There are so many great psalms and some speak to us more than others at certain times! Thanks for visiting my site! Hope to hear from you again. Blessings!

  5. Psalm 30 is a lovely psalm which shows how good God is, as it’s not God who turns away from us but it’s us who turns away from Him.

I was in a situation many years ago, like what the Psalmist experienced and God through His grace and mercy just drew me back unto Him.

God is truly good and He knows what is best for us, it’s good to stay close to Him.
