John 5:16-30 – Son of God

Read John 5:16-30

Jesus is the Son of God. Yes. Read that again and then really take a moment to ponder on the truth of that statement. Jesus is the Son of God.

Sometimes we get so caught up in getting our tasks done our time for reading our Bible each day takes a back seat. We are so anxious to get on our way, whether it’s to work, to take our kids to practice, to make breakfast, etc. Or maybe it’s just me. Maybe you sit in your chair every waking moment and spend time with God and marvel at the wonder of it all. Most of us don’t have that luxury. However, when we do devote our time to God it should be uninterrupted and reverent time.

What did you think of the passage today? Jesus is really putting it out there for those religious leaders. He is not holding back. He is making it very clear who he is. Jesus is the Son of God. Can you picture the look on the leaders’ faces? Do they think he’s gone mad? Or do they secretly believe him but don’t want to let on?

I recently read something about believing in eternal life and whether that was a waste of time. The author said they would rather believe and live their life following Jesus believing his word to be true to live with God forever. If it isn’t true, they would have lived a good life full of hope. As opposed to living in denial only to find out the message was true and not have access to the promised eternity. I do feel sorry for people who choose not to believe. They are missing out on so much beauty. They are missing out on having a constant companion and guide to help them navigate life.

Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus tells us he will do much greater things than heal the man we read about yesterday. He also said those who do not honor the Son do not honor the Father. I’m sure that put those leaders over the edge with their boiling anger. What were they going to do with Jesus? Those that listen to Jesus will live. Even Jesus follows the will of God. We should follow his example.

What areas of your life need a makeover? Are you needing to spend more time with Jesus? Are you needing to listen better for his message? Take some time today to really focus on the fact that Jesus is the Son of God. What does that mean to you?

Let’s pray. Lord, you are mighty and good. I want to be in your will. Help me to close out the distractions so I can hear your message for me. May I continue to marvel and be in awe of you. Show me how I can serve you today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
