The verse that spoke loudest to me today was v. 16, “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” I have read that over and over several times. What an honor! We can come boldly before God. Jesus has made that possible. Before Jesus, our access to God was limited by communication through another human, a high priest.
Only those chosen by God could serve as a high priest. What a great honor. With this great privilege came quite a responsibility to the people. High priests were to go before God with the prayers and sacrifices of the people, only to turn around and go to the people with a blessing from God. It all changed when God appointed his Son, Jesus, to be our high priest. We now have access to God and can come boldly.
I can’t imagine not having the freedom to pray to God directly. However, we still pray through Jesus (who is God). We often use “in Jesus’ name” as part of our prayer. At the name of Jesus, every knee will bow (Philippians 2:10). As I picture the throne of God, I see Jesus at the right hand of God. As I close my eyes and see that glorious place, I see myself on my knees. I surrender all.
I am feeling especially full of gratitude for the freedom to come before God. Yet I am humbled by my own limitations, failures, and brokenness. I bow down today and surrender all. We need to be totally open to what Jesus wants to do within us. Are you ready to let him in to have his way in your life? Here is a song I just found who really speaks to full surrender. Listen here to the song I Surrender.
Let’s pray. Lord, you know the places in my life that need a touch from you. Help me when I am feeling lost and unsure. When I am troubled, may I turn to you for consolation. When I feel like I am suffocating, let me receive breath from you. Breathe into me your peace. Guide my steps and my words this day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
