There is some good stuff in this passage. We continue on from the previous reading (so if you missed yesterday’s devotion, it might be helpful to go back to get the full picture). If a verse from today’s ready spoke to you louder than another, please share in the comments.
Today’s reading points to the importance of stripping off the old sinful nature and focusing on things above. We are even given some examples of what to avoid. To escape God’s anger, we need to focus on our promised inheritance, that is to live forever with Jesus in the majesty of heaven. Imagine our destiny to be at peace and rest in the Father’s presence, joining with all in a life of constant praise and freedom.
To be like our creator is quite a goal. It doesn’t matter what we’ve done or where we’ve been, we can shed our sinful nature. We are cleansed to become more like Christ. How do we do that?
Christ is all that matters. That is the line we should repeat whenever life crushes in. Christ is all that matters. Repeat that when a decision needs to be made and we don’t know what to do. Christ is all that matters. When we feel inadequate. Christ is all that matters. When we question what is happening in the world or in our lives. Christ is all that matters. We belong to him. Period. Revel in that truth and be comforted.
Let’s pray. Thank you, Jesus, that you have taken up residence within me. Help me to shed away the layers of hurt, doubt and fear. May you shine through me. I want others to see you when they look at me. Thank you for the example you gave me to follow. Now please help me to follow you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
With Jesus we have new life! We were dead in our sins before Jesus washed us clean. Jesus cut away the entanglement of our sin and its destruction in our lives. We have been forgiven. We have put our trust in a God who has saved us, rescued us from ourselves.
The secret is found in verse 27, Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.
Jesus. He existed before anything else. Anything. He holds creation together. That is quite something.
Before starting Book 4 of the Psalms with the next up psalm, Psalm 90, I thought we’d take a diversion to the New Testament. We’ll walk together through the Book of Colossians and let the words of Paul encourage us!
