This passage is jam-packed with nuggets and blessings. Re-read it several times until you feel the peace of God descending on you.
This is one of those passages that will speak to each of us a little differently. It would be great to be sitting in a discussion group with you so we could share our insights. Instead, feel free to write in the comments at the end what spoke to you most about this Bible text.
This is such an intimate moment between Jesus and his closest friends and followers. The final hour has arrived, and it won’t be long before Jesus will be taken from them. They don’t know it, but Jesus does. It’s like Jesus knows he’s got to tell them everything before it’s too late.
Jesus wants them to see God’s glory revealed. He doesn’t want them to miss it. When all of these things that Jesus is describing start to happen, they will see. Jesus wants them to be ready to believe with no doubts. His prophecy will soon be fulfilled. For now, it must seem like crazy talk to the disciples. They are still a bit clueless as to what is actually happening. They are part of something so much bigger than they could ever imagine.
I love this promise, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.” Let this resonate to your core. Do you really love Jesus? Do you obey his words? Having the God of the universe take up residence inside us is hard to imagine. Do you love enough to follow Jesus?
The world can be loud. The distractions can seem appropriate. What are you doing today to focus on Jesus? Is something getting in your way? We must never lose sight of what is most important in life. What does your relationship with Jesus look like? Is it one-sided? How are you at listening and obeying?
Let’s pray. Lord, I need your help to be more focused on what is important (YOU) and to close out the noise of the world. Everything thing I do, may I do it to glorify you. Bring forth the people you need to touch. I will be honored to be your hands and feet. Show me how and where I can make a difference. Make it clear to me Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
