Acts 19:23-41 – Persecution is Real

Read Acts 19:23-41

Have you noticed a pattern in the book of Acts? Any time there is a profound move of the Spirit, it is followed by a riot, some unrest, or danger for the apostle Paul and his companions. We can see similar things happening today when pastors or groups of Christians are persecuted for doing good. It’s like we have targets on our backs for the enemy to come calling, to bring calamity or raise enemies.

I was reminded this week of what Jesus said about this in his Sermon on the Mount. In Matthew 5:10-12, we read: “God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.” If you are or have ever been threatened because of your faith, rest in the words of Jesus.
