Isaiah 55:1-13 – Unfailing Love

Read Isaiah 55:1-13

God’s unfailing love is played out in his offer of blessing, our salvation. We can almost picture God with open arms as Isaiah describes God’s welcome to come eat and be filled. He welcomes all and includes us even if we can’t pay. If our salvation depended on us, we would not be saved. God doesn’t exclude anyone because unfailing love is like that.

Isaiah was given this prophecy from God all those years ago, but it is still fulfilled each time a believer is saved. I love that God revealed this message so many generations before Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection made it possible.

God tells us how easy it is to be one of his own. We just need to come and listen. He wants our ears “wide open.” God intends to share a new “everlasting” covenant with us. “I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David.” He says he has made us “glorious.” We are definitely special to God. When we realize that, our world shifts.

To be loved by God is an incredible honor. Many will miss out on the blessings. We can feel like first-class citizens because we belong to God. It doesn’t matter where we come from or what we have done before this moment; God’s unfailing love is merciful and mighty.

It’s not too late for those who are far from God either. Isaiah calls them out, “Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong.” Can you imagine what the world would look like if the wicked did just that? That’s what the kingdom of God will be like, no more wickedness. God stands ready to forgive the repentant heart.

God wants to nourish our souls, too, and that is why we have the Bible. His word is meant to come into our lives and transform us to share with others. Isn’t that what Isaiah means when he speaks of the fruit and the prosperity? When we know God’s word and treasure its message, we feel peace. We are closer to God, our protector, guide, and Lord. An honor indeed!

Take some time today to be thankful for how God is working in your life. Like this prophecy says, we don’t always understand his ways. But we can recognize them as holy and kingdom-focused.  “For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” The unfailing love of our Heavenly Father is such a gift. Think about that!

I am overwhelmed by the joy that fills my heart when I focus on you and your love for me. May I never give in to worry or fear being dealt by the world. Strengthen me each day to trust you while I keep my eyes focused only on you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
