Isaiah 40:31 – Trusting God

“But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.”
(Isaiah 40:31)

I love the image of soaring high like an eagle, even though I’m afraid of heights. It speaks of the freedom we have when we trust in God. We don’t have to fear, we will be given new strength. That sounds marvelous, especially when we’re feeling weak.

Context (Isaiah 40:12-31): This section of Isaiah has been entitled “The LORD Has No Equal.” Just sit with that truth for a moment. Every verse in this section speaks of God’s magnificent power over his creation. If you need a reminder of how great God is, this is the section for you. It masterfully sets up our memory verse today, giving us countless reasons to trust in the LORD.

The verse mentions benefits. Besides the new strength, we will soar high, rise above our problems. When we look from that higher vantage point, it’s easier to see the big picture and realize our need for God. Our problems look so much smaller when we are trusting God.

It can be hard to let go of the control in our lives. I feel like I’ve got a tug of war going with God sometimes, always wanting to take back those problems I already laid at his feet. Why is it I act as if I have more wisdom to take care of things than God? Making the choice to trust God is taking control, isn’t it? It’s certainly making the wise choice.

When we trust in God, we can fight the good fight, run the race of life, and never get weary. After a long day at the office followed by evening meetings and doing all the normal mom and wife things, I remember weariness. I’ve also experienced the exhilaration from trusting God through a problem or impossible situation. That rejuvenation of spirit is available to those who trust in God.

To know we are not going to collapse under the pressures of life is such a welcome relief. Trusting in God has its perks. Some of us need that reminder when the going gets tough. Just as important is to remember to trust God when things are going fantastically. Rejoice with God, thanking him that you do not feel faint and feel ready to conquer the world.

Remember to let God lead. Trusting in him is the main idea we should all focus on. Is there anything in your life that needs to be surrendered to God?

single cross against sunset with sun burst by crossLet’s pray. Lord, your ways are always perfect, and I thank you for all your provisions. You are great beyond description. While I don’t always understand how you are moving, help me to still trust you with my life. Open my eyes to see you clearly as well as the path you have laid out for me. May I carry your message of love into the world.  May everything I say and do be honoring to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
