I thought the furnishings were elaborate. The tabernacle was also a work of art. Why did God prescribe a tabernacle? My guess, and I could be all wrong, was to meet the people where they were. God wanted a relationship with his people, so he needed to be there. He needed to present the people with a tangible place and items that they would recognize as God’s. He didn’t want them to worship those things but worship Him alone.
Did you have a hard time picturing this? There are several artist renderings, but I also found a great video. You can watch it HERE. It does a good job of explaining the tabernacle. I think it helps us understand the relevance it has for us today. Maybe we can have a little more clarity on our own spiritual journey. Listen for more on the purpose, plan, and pattern.
For visual learners, like me, this will be a helpful video.
While the video covers more than just this text, I hope it will be helpful for you. I’d love to hear your comments.
Let’s pray. Lord, sometimes it’s hard to fit all the pieces together. I know that you want a relationship with me, and I yearn for the same as well. Thank you that you are approachable and ready to hear my cry, accept my worship, and provide for my needs. Help me to never take you for granted. I marvel at your majesty and the detail for which you want to be remembered. May I not get lost in the details but truly focus on the giving God you are. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
