Acts 20:1-12 – Encouragement

Read Acts 20:1-12

Paul’s ministry is so Spirit-filled and vibrant. He now has new people traveling with him. We even see that Luke has rejoined the traveling party. In so much as God is part of these journeys, evil has always been close at hand to try to thwart the efforts of these disciples and apostles. How faithful our God is to continue to fight the battle for us today. Our defense against evil must be strong enough so that it is our offense of the light that prevails.

One great lesson for the church today and the church in Paul’s time is to witness giving and how precious that is. While not totally spelled out in the text here, we understand that the men traveling with Paul right now have joined forces on the path to Jerusalem. You’ll note their hometowns have all been referenced in our recent accounts of Paul’s journey. These are places he’s visited, where churches have been born. The new churches are now showing their faithfulness by giving their offerings. These gifts and tithes will be personally hand delivered to the Holy City, Jerusalem.

Not only are these young disciples doing something beautiful and significant for their own ministries, they are doing something for themselves personally. Imagine growing your faith in the company of Paul and the other apostles?! Powerful associations. After leaving the offering in Jerusalem, these leaders will return to their cities and faith communities totally refreshed and renewed.

Are you feeling like you need a little spiritual renewal? Are you emotionally drained by what life is throwing at you these days? Maybe you are not sure how to fit in right now. Hopefully, you’re past the place of feeling you’re not worthy of God’s love or questioning how he could even love you. Suffice it to say — HE LOVES YOU!!

We all need a little encouragement in our lives. I appreciate how Paul was making his rounds to those towns and villages that needed his help. It’s hard for new Christians to keep the momentum, especially when darkness is so prevalent. How do you need to be encouraged today? Do you have any prayer concerns? Be sure to email us or comment below and we’ll add you to our prayer list.

Let’s pray. Heavenly father, you know the struggles I am facing. You know the worries that I am trying so hard to give to you. I know that you are so much bigger than all of this and my time worrying is only wasted. I pray for your perfect peace. For those who also struggle, Lord, lift them up and give them that perfect peace as well. I give you thanks for your provision each day. I pray I am being a good steward of your resources. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
