Solomon’s wisdom has made quite the impression on the Queen of Sheba. She is almost oozing with admiration over what she has seen with her own eyes.
I had to remember that the Queen would have gotten her “intel” from others who had heard or seen King Solomon. Obviously, their account was not quite accurate. The Queen wasn’t relying on a social media presence, a blog article, or any such thing. Our means of obtaining information these days is not only fast, but it is also not always correct.
How many times lately David and I have brought two very different angles of news we’ve heard to the table for discussion. I love the deep discussions we often have. Just yesterday, I learned two “brand new” things about the “younger version” of David (before I knew and loved him) that I had never heard before. I love sharing good memory nuggets, too!
We’ve known for a long time that when two or more people attend the same event, it is very unlikely that anyone’s account will be totally the same. What makes an impression is what gets relayed. You can bet Queen of Sheba is going to be talking about her visit to King Solomon for some time.
I love how she called out the reason for King Solomon’s success. “Praise the Lord your God, who delights in you and has placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king so you can rule with justice and righteousness.” It’s all about God and how he has provided for the people. What a grateful recipient Solomon must be!
Fun Fact: The sandalwood mentioned here is still in a shortage (as of the time I write this in 2021). It’s not endangered, but it’s not like to be production-ready for a number of years.
I got such a positive feeling from reading this passage. I always like to see people succeed, and King Solomon has certainly done well for himself. Asking for wisdom, and then being blessed with wealth and all the rest, has served him and his subjects well.
I feel like this is a high point in the life of the Israelites, especially the king. Is it safe to assume that if you have a happy king, you have a happy kingdom?
Examine how you are living. I’m not sure I know anybody who lives as lavishly as King Solomon. Yet, what’s comfortable and enjoyable can be just as valuable. God has placed you where you are for a reason. Are you happy? Are you content?
What do you need to ask God for? He may not have verbally asked us in a dream for what we want, but you know any good parent still wants to know. We’re told to ask. So ask!
Let’s pray …
Lord, thank you for how you bless me each day. I’m always amazed at your gracious love and provision. I am doing what I need to be ready for all that you are calling me to do. I cherish the time I spend with you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
