If you ever wonder what people mean when they say, “the gospel,” then Paul’s opening remarks here give you a wonderful example of that “Good News.” It’s also Paul’s testimony of how he came to be a follower of Christ rather than a key persecutor. God’s transformation of Paul is one of the beautiful stories of the New Testament.

Paul always points to God as his guiding light in life. I love how Paul talks about how, by the grace of God, God is working through him. We can have that same assurance. God has a purpose for each one of us. Finding and living out that purpose makes life on this planet so much fun. We find ourselves, like Paul, wanting to live life to the fullest, bringing honor to the kingdom.

Paul spends time speaking of the resurrection a lot, too. This is a pivotal part of our faith. We can boldly state that our faith is not “useless” because we trust that Jesus defeated death and the grave. The power of God that was at work in that miracle is available for us,

It helps to remember that Jesus’ kingdom began with his ministry and continues as new believers come to faith and begin serving today. As co-heirs to the kingdom, we help each other with support and love until Jesus brings us, his kingdom of believers, back to the Father.

How and when this all takes place is a mystery to all but God. We need only trust in God’s perfect timing to reveal Himself and His kingdom. It’s our job to seek the kingdom, putting God first in our lives.

The title of this reflection could also be, “Who is Coming?”  That, of course, would be Jesus. What is coming is the end of time, when Jesus will gather his kingdom of believers and bring us to the Father to live forever. Jesus’ final victory is over death, the “last enemy.”

Here’s a great song from Crossroads Music called “Kingdom of God,” that will lead you into worship as you reflect on being part of this kingdom of God.

two people praying together Jesus is hereLet’s pray. I look forward to the day when I reach my ultimate destiny with you. Until your kingdom is fully revealed, help me be focused on the things that matter and glorify you in all I say and do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
