David has a strong network keeping him safe. Yet, the one who is truly in charge is God.

It’s like that for us, too. We have family and friends cheering us on, keeping our best interests in mind. Even more important, God is present, hovering and protecting. His protection can often involve a learning experience.

What do you think of David’s daringly effective intelligence network? Brilliant together, yet each has a job to do–a bit of espionage in this story of David and Absalom’s dispute. I’m not sure David is as upset with Absalom as it appears Absalom is with his father. What brought that on, do you suppose? Could it be that David ignored the situation when Amnon raped Absalom’s sister?

In the scheme of things, what I see plainly is that God works in and through networks of people. He uses each of us for some purpose. You might say that we have been gifted according to the purpose God has for us.

Think about the assets and skills you bring to a situation or community of people. Are you organized, a strong leader, prayerful, discerning, strategic, compassionate? It takes all kinds to make the world go around. When we discover what that superpower is that God has given us, it’s a beautiful thing.

You can have a new lease on life. Too many people, I think, get stuck in their comfortable lives. I’m not trying to point any fingers here. And, I’m not advocating that you up and leave everything you know and love behind and move abroad. What’s your deal? How is God wanting to use you?

We do well to let ourselves ask, “What does God want?” Even if we don’t get a clear answer right away, we can feel good about asking the question. God will answer. We need to be prepared for it to be unexpected and perhaps contrary to what we “hope” for.

When in your life did you feel like God was taking his time in answering your prayer? Maybe it’s right now. Maybe you’re wondering if you should just stop praying the prayer. God doesn’t mind repetition so long as it’s heartfelt. Our persistence in prayer often pays off – I’ve experienced it!

Look around at your network. Is it full of other believers? Who do you have supporting you? Do they see your giftings from God?

Let’s pray …
Lord, help me be bold in my walk with you. Surround me with believers who will stretch and challenge me. Use me to be the compassionate leader others need as they walk through transitions and transformations in their lives. Touch those in my network as well. Prepare me for how you are expanding my reach. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
