Don’t you wish everyone could read this letter from Peter? It puts so many things into perspective. God’s provision for us is amazing! Unfortunately, most aren’t “ready” to accept the wisdom Peter is sharing. Not everyone is open to growing in faith and drawing closer to their Creator. Peter’s prayer for us is powerful. “May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.”
We are all a work in progress when it comes to our faith. Readings like this confirm for us that we are on the right track. It invigorates us to know “God has given us everything we need for living a godly life.” Period. We don’t need to be distracted by seeking riches or fame. God has supplied us for the mission he assigned us. Figuring out what our mission is becomes what we are seeking.
We’re also called to respond to God’s promises and live our lives accordingly. Spending time in God’s word helps us uncover those promises. Our life’s purpose comes into focus as our faith grows and we step into God’s provision. God rejoices when we find our way back to him. Peter tells us, “Do these things, and you will never fall away.”
Peter even calls out the corrupt world we live in. How did he know? The world hasn’t changed much if it was corrupt way back then. That speaks volumes about the power of evil that controls this world. I don’t know about you, but God’s promises sound more appealing than the empty promises the world offers.
What a great reminder to stand firm on our foundation of faith and what God’s Word teaches us! If we find ourselves floundering in this world, pick up a Bible. God’s messages to us are timeless. In His wisdom, God has given us all that we need before we ever knew we needed it.
The apostle Paul eloquently said in 1 Corinthians 3:11: “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ.” All we need is Jesus.
Let’s pray. Lord Jesus, you are the foundation upon which I stand. Thank you for how your Word speaks to me each day. When I feel lost and unsure, I can turn to you. You have given me all that I need to complete the mission you have for me. Help me to honor you in all I say and do. Use me to help others see you and desire to walk with you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
